Gift Nifty was slightly lower, Asian markets edged lower

Local stock markets are poised for a slightly weak start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged lower by 0.22 points, hinting at a soft opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 modestly higher.The BSE Sensex has posted modest gains of 2.24% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has inched higher 0.97% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was subdued. China’s SSE Composite Index posted modest losses of 1.09% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 eased 2.54%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 1.30%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 943 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,924 crore in the Indian equity market on 29 October 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest losses across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 132.54 points, or 0.25%, and closed at 52363.56. The S&P 500 slipped 0.31% to end at 7741.10, and the NASDAQ Composite drifted lower 1.38% to 26204.90.

In last session, the S&P BSE Sensex posted modest gains of 905.01 points or 1.24% to 74151.04. The Nifty 50 index added 237.90 points or 1.05% to 22936.75. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, edging up 6.29% to Rs 1872. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and stands lower 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Realty index edged up yesterday, adding 2.75% on the day.
