The key equity barometers traded with minor gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23150-22914. Nifty IT, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media shares rose, while Nifty FMCG and Nifty Healthcare Index shares fell.

At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 258.89 points or 0.35% to 74,574.50. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 133.05 points or 0.58% to 23,130.40.

The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.14% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.08%.

The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2636 shares advanced and 1898 shares retreated. A total of 261 shares were unchanged.

Nifty IT index surged 3.28% to 31728. The index has moved higher by 3.94% in last one month and slipped 13.23% over last one year. Tech Mahindra, strengthening 7.18%, led the gainers followed by Wipro, rising 6.19% and Infosys, gaining 3.84%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.

Nifty Metal index gained 1.34% to 12179. The index has declined 5.14% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 17.62% over last one year. Vedanta Aluminium Metal, inching higher 3.91%, led the gainers followed by Natl. Aluminium, adding 2.49% and Hindustan Zinc, up 2.05%, respectively. All 15 constituents are advancing today.

Nifty FMCG index posted modest losses of 0.61%. The index has edged lower 0.09% in last one month and posted steep losses of 18.19% over last one year. Britannia Inds., slipping 1.44%, led the losers followed by Godrej Consumer, losing 1.44% and Tata Consumer, easing 1.18%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 11 are reporting loss today.

Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 8 are in green today. Nifty IT index has registered sharp gains of 3.94% in last one month and has posted steep losses of 13.23% over last year. Nifty FMCG index is slightly lower by 0.09% in last one month and has recorded steep losses of 18.19% over last one year.

From NIFTY50 index, Yes Bank, Vodafone Idea AND JP Power Ven. are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 3675.49 lakh shares, 902.55 lakh shares and 399.68 lakh shares respectively.

Asian markets jumped on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is higher by 0.54%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is ahead by 0.84%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is significantly higher by 1.87%.

NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 36.50 points today.
