Gift Nifty tumbled, Asian markets edged lower

Local stock markets are set for a sharply lower opening today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are tumbling by 1.60 points, indicating a weak and volatile start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market closed on a positive note in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally higher.The BSE Sensex has drifted lower 4.84% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has slipped 4.91% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was slightly weaker. China’s SSE Composite Index slipped 1.97% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 drifted lower 0.22%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index ticked up 0.36%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,693 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 2,838 crore in the Indian equity market on 27 September 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest gains across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly higher by 478.64 points, or 0.93%, and closed at 51849.62. The S&P 500 eased 0.41% to end at 7784, and the NASDAQ Composite inched higher 0.46% to 27084.93.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex edged up 315.20 points or 0.43% to 73895.74. The Nifty 50 index added 77.40 points or 0.34% to 23140.50. Axis Bank Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, edging up 3.03% to Rs 1222.40. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Consumer Durables index moved higher yesterday, gaining 0.95% on the day.
