Gift Nifty inched down, Asian markets traded slightly higher

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.06 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 in positive territory.The BSE Sensex has inched higher 1.07% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has edged up 1.41% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was mildly upbeat. China’s SSE Composite Index inched higher 0.70% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 moved higher 0.77%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index ticked up 0.67%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,593 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 230 crore in the Indian equity market on 25 August 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest gains across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly higher by 160.24 points, or 0.30%, and closed at 53598.40. The S&P 500 posted modest gains of 0.30% to end at 7696.83, and the NASDAQ Composite ticked up 0.65% to 26170.28.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex edged up 286.98 points or 0.37% to 77656.09. The Nifty 50 index added 115.50 points or 0.48% to 24334.55. Adani Enterprises Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 3.72% to Rs 3110. The stock has posted modest gains of around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Healthcare Index index ticked up yesterday, advancing 1.09% on the day.
