The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24343 and hit a high of 24358 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Media and Nifty Metal shares advanced, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT shares retreated. At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 488.30 points or 0.63% to 77,520.95. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 111.70 points or 0.46% to 24,254.30. The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.15% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.29%. The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2006 shares gained and 2631 shares fell. A total of 297 shares were unchanged. Nifty Media index posted modest gains of 0.43% to 1597. The index has climbed 5.26% in last one month and lost 3.81% over last one year. PVR Inox, up 1.58%, led the gainers followed by Sun TV Network, edging up 0.74% and Netwrk.18 Media, inching higher 0.45%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 6 are reporting gains today. Nifty Metal index edged higher by 0.10% to 12955. The index has inched higher by 2.08% in last one month and posted strong gains of 40.42% over last one year. Hindustan Copper, adding 4.60%, led the gainers followed by Natl. Aluminium, gaining 2.45% and Hindustan Zinc, inching higher 1.55%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 8 are reporting gains today. Nifty PSU Bank index slipped 1.40%. The index has gained 5.19% in last one month and soared 24.39% over last one year. Indian Bank, easing 2.91%, led the losers followed by Punjab Natl.Bank, down 1.57% and Bank of Baroda, edging lower 1.53%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 11 are reporting loss today. In NIFTY500, Physicswallah is the top gainer today, soaring 6.36% to Rs 124.65. The counter has tumbled 24.56% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 299991.83 in last five sessions compared to 312232.42 over last one month. Asian markets rallied on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is ahead by 0.92%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is significantly higher by 1.68%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is modestly higher by 0.33%.
