Balmer Lawrie faces Rs 18.28 crore GST demand for financial year 2020-21

Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. has disclosed receiving a demand order from the GST department under the CGST/KGST Act, 2017, pertaining to the financial year 2020-21. The order, issued on August 17, 2026, alleges short declaration of outward supplies and discrepancies related to the reverse charge mechanism, resulting in a total demand of Rs 18.28 crore, comprised of Rs 8.81 crore in tax, Rs 8.59 crore in interest, and Rs 0.88 crore in penalty. Additionally, the Appellate Authority in Karnataka has determined disputed amounts of Rs 31.72 lakh (Rs 16.63 lakh tax, Rs 13.36 lakh interest, and Rs 1.73 lakh penalty), and the company is currently assessing the implications and potential legal remedies, stating the order is not expected to materially impact operations.
