Balance of Payments shows stellar performance

India’s balance of payments registered a surplus of $45.4 billion in August 2026, a significant turnaround from the $5.6 billion deficit recorded in the corresponding period of August 2025, as disclosed by data released by the Reserve Bank of India yesterday. The current account deficit narrowed to $5.2 billion in August 2026, down from $6.1 billion in August 2025. The merchandise trade deficit decreased to $26.6 billion, with exports attaining $44.7 billion while imports totaled $71.3 billion. Net services receipts also advanced to $16.5 billion in August.
