Trading for 2024 may begin on flat note

GIFT Nifty:

Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the GIFT Nifty indicates that the Nifty could fall 7 points at the opening bell.

Global markets:

Overseas, most of Europe and Asia will have a market holiday today. The US stock market will remain closed today on New Year?s Day.

U.S. stocks closed modestly lower on Friday, the last trading day of 2023, capping a robust year-end rally as investors eyed easier monetary policy in the year ahead.

Domestic markets:

Back home, the domestic equity indices ended with minor losses on the last trading session of 2023 on Friday, snapping a five day gaining streak. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 170.12 points or 0.23% to 72,240.26. The Nifty 50 index lost 47.30 points or 0.22% to 21,731.40.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,459.12 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net buyers to the tune of Rs 554.39 crore in the Indian equity market on 29 December, provisional data showed.
